Lily's world

Hey, remember that time you put your toes in your ears?

And then sat your naked butt on the couch to read a story?

And then there was that time we found a real, live Easter bunny while we were geocashing.

Austin Rodeo

It's been a few years since we have been to the Austin Rodeo. I think Wade may have been just over a year old...? Anyway, I decided that since the kids were feeling better (and me too!) we should venture out of the house somewhere special in honor of Wade's (very uneventful) Spring Break. So, the Rodeo it was!

There was a livestock barn and horse competition. A petting zoo, pig races, and an old west puppet show. There was food on a stick, snow cones, and carnival games. A little something for everyone. Lily was in heaven in the petting zoo and Wade would have played carny games all day long. Everyone was worn out and smelled like manure by the time the day was over. If that's not a success, I don't know what is.

Checking out the horse competition

Heading over to the "DO NOT TOUCH OR FEED THE ANIMALS" livestock barn

Miniature horses are sort of strange looking. Nothing like Shetland ponies...

Baby chicks. They actually had it set up where you could watch them hatching!

Huge pig all crashed out.

Wade's little buddy. Crawled right up into his lap and took a nap. Wade, then wanted to bring him home with us. There were tears.

I told Lily to smile and say, "cheese," The goat listened too.

Nope, not a headlock. Just a little love for the baby goat.

This guy had attitude. Wade went in to pet him and he leaned waaaay over. He's actually standing right next to Wade.

And snow cones

Growing up!

One night, Wade disappeared into our bathroom. He reemerged like this:

Although from the picture, you unfortunately cannot see the actual amount of hair product he used to make adequate spikes.

Then, he decided one day that he wanted to make me a salad for lunch. Side note: I had burned my lunch one day (or breakfast, maybe) while I was getting things for the kids to eat and he wanted to make my lunch while I made theirs, so mine wouldn't get burned :) Such a sweet boy! And he did a fantastic job with everything. He added the lettuce, shredded carrots and then washed and added the cherry tomatoes. I cut the avocado for him, but he scooped it out and then I had to add the cut up red peppers because he was pretty sure I needed those too.

He also decided he wanted to make us fresh lemonade. So he squeezed the lemons, and then dumped sugar and water into the pot and stirred it up to make a simple syrup. He then mixed everything together and added cold water. We stuck it in the fridge to cool down while I finished getting their (non-burned) lunch together. Lily loves "lemmy" so this was a treat for her too!

Rain, rain, go away. Rain, STOP!

This year, the Mardi Gras parade was on a dreary, rainy day. But it didn't dampen our spirits one bit. The kids loved catching the beads and candy and the grown-ups always enjoy catching the jello shots :) Lily especially loved all the puppies. Of course.

Waiting...

It smells like horses in here!

A couple of weeks ago, we took a trip to a horse farm where the woman who owns it has therapy horses. The boys were a little indifferent. They really liked the huge sliding door on the barn though. Lily on the other hand, made a friend for life with one of the ponies named Nona. She wouldn't leave her side and kept touching and petting and hugging her. Even on the car ride back to Katie's house and later, the car ride home, she kept mentioning her over and over again.

Quick! Let's go outside, before it freezes again!

After our 7th "ice event" in the Austin area this winter, I'm not sure when to bring the plants in (what's left of them) and when to send Wade to school in his winter jacket, hat and gloves! I'm not sure if I'll wake up to the water in the dog's bowl a solid block of ice, or if it will get in the 80's by mid-afternoon. So, in between freezes and ice storms (our last included sleet, rain, thunder and lightening) we try to head outside to enjoy the unseasonably warm in-between days.

Our new obsession: picture-taking

A little quality time with the dogs

Wade and his accessories. I mean his spy gear.

At least when she takes her clothes & shoes off, she organizes them neatly
