Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Here's a quick glimpse of what happened in our neck of the woods.

Wade's valentines. Army themed, of course

And, he was very particular about his Valentine box...

Valentine's Week

In celebration of Valentine's Day being this Saturday, we filled the week with hearts, love and all things pink.

Day 1:
Story- Dora's Happy Valentine's Day
Art- Painting newspaper (for use on Valentine's postcards)
Sensory-  (Homemade) chocolate playdough
Science- Fizzing hearts
Snack (breakfast)- Heart-shaped pancakes

We started off the week with a little pancake love. Ha! See what I did there?

I had really good intentions of painting these newspapers with watercolors and cutting out heart shapes from them. Then, I would have the kids paint some postcards, again with watercolors, glue on the newspaper hearts and send them off to our loved ones. Um, this is as far as we got...

Fizzing hearts! Lily LOVED this. It's just baking soda and food coloring and a little water. Next time, I would add dish soap to make them even fizzier (like I did with our snowmen)

Homemade chocolate scented (and colored, of course), playdough! The kids really liked this stuff too!

I, ahem, had to buy a box of chocolates. Just for the box. We won't go into what happened to the actual chocolates...
Day 2:
Story- Guess How Much I Love You
Art- Arms & heart stamped trees
Sensory- Felt heart sorting
Snack- Heart cookies and strawberry milk
Sensory- Valentine lacing cards

Today we had MOPS, so we did a few things in the morning and called it good :-)

Sorting the felt hearts. She wanted them to be with their families, so she sorted them by color. And was very upset when there wasn't a Mommy, Daddy and at least one Baby in each family.

Lacing cards. Like pulling teeth, this one. We only did this for a few minutes.

Snack time!
Tortured the kids into making these Valentines to send out to the family. They are supposed to look like trees with heart-shaped leaves... Not sure if that's how they came across though, lol! They used a tp roll to make the heart stamps.
Day 3:
Story- I Love You Sleepyhead
Art- Heart-shaped panda
Snack- Heart-shaped lunch
Math/treat- Counting conversation hearts cards

Wade had a 2 hour delay today, so we just played in the morning and got sort of a late start.

After reading the story, I Love You Sleepyhead, which has a panda bear in it, we made one- all out of hearts!

*Love*ly lunch

Counting (and adding and subtracting for Wade) conversation hearts

Day 4:
Story- How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You? & The Giving Tree
Art- Heart shaped animal- Lily's choice (puppy)
Sensory- Heart-shaped cereal & pipecleaner birdfeeder
Snack- Heart-shaped mini pizzas & juice with heart-shaped ice cubes

We went to story time at the library today, and lo and behold, they were doing Valentine's stories too! She even make an elephant out of heart shapes for her art project.

Lily's choice! A cute little puppy dog with fingerprint dots on his ears

Making bird feeders with cereal and pipecleaners.

Please ignore the dog hair on the carpet. It was not vacuuming day.

Heart shaped pizzas for lunch!

Day 5:
Story- The Day it Rained Hearts
Art- Shaving cream marbled heart painting
Math/Snack- Sorting conversation hearts
Snack- Heart shaped jello (didn't turn out- stuck to the molds!)
Movie! Well, I think we skipped the movie this week and had friends over instead. I think. At some point that weekend we did that, and if we watched a movie, well, I have no idea what it was...

Usually Lily's not too into the messy stuff, but she really got into this one! I mixed shaving cream and paint and then we pressed a heart shape down into it. Then she moved on from there....

Ice fishing

We went ice fishing again, this time a little farther away and with friends. Mark had been here before and cleaned up. We, on the other hand, caught 4. Fish. Total.

We had fun though, and it was beautiful weather. So beautiful, that Jami and I both got sunburns. The kids were great and had fun playing together, as usual. Another great trip!

First, we tortured the babies...

Then they actively participated in the fishing by staring at a hole in the ice

Having a snack and enjoying the sun
