A few days after the new year, we took the kids ice fishing on Manitou Lake, right down the road from us. We started off very eventfully, as we dropped Wade's line into the hole and a rainbow trout grabbed it right away. Wade had no idea what to do, Mark was rigging up the other lines and I was trying to keep Lily from falling in the holes. So, it got off. We continued to catch sucker after sucker (which, I learned, you cannot eat) and only 1 other rainbow. We stayed out for longer than we should have- our kid meltdown alarm had gone off waaaaay earlier, but we just wanted 1 more trout to make a meal.
The kids really did have a blast (until about 30 minutes from leaving). Lily LOVED the fish- touching them, moving them to different piles, watching them, etc,, etc. Wade had a lot of patience for sitting and holding his pole and waiting to catch a fish. He wasn't too thrilled about touching the fish, but he wouldn't be outdone by his sister. We will definitely be out on the ice again!
